In the picture you see Ana Mendieta. She
was an important woman in the field of art, specifically in the area
of body art. She was born in 1948 and she had an tragic death in
1985, she fell down from 34th floor. It's presumed that she was
murdered by her partner, the artist minimalistic Carl André. Her
origins are cuban, however she lived in United States much of her
life . This biographic event was important in her work, especially
for her physical appearance. She worked through to performance and
videoart, one of the her most important work is the Silueta
series, where she took particulars pictures of herself in natural
area trying to blend her body with nature like a way to approach to
earth, after she continued with variations of this work. The death is
an important topics used by her, because her work is ritual and
existential. Also the feminism and the violence are others line of
her research. The blood is an element important in some of her works.
Personally I like very much this artist.
Is a reference for me, because I do performance, I like existential
essence in her work I really admire her passion.
I like how she worked the "mark" -concept-. Tragically, her last work is the mark of her own corpse on pavement...
ResponderEliminarThe death of Ana was considered a suicide and Carl Andre was acquitted. But, the true can never be known...
